NUTRITIONAL ECOLOGY OF FEMALE NORTHERN PINTAILS ALONG THE TEXAS COAST

From 2012 to 2015 KPC provided access to researchers from the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Institute at Texas A&M Kingsville who are trying to determine if northern pintails wintering along the Texas coast are meeting their nutritional requirements. The objectives of this study were to (1) estimate nutrient reserve dynamics of female northern pintails collected throughout the Texas Coast during October through March 2012 to 2014, (2) estimate energy and nutrient composition of the diet of female northern pintails wintering along the Texas Coast during October through March 2012-2014, (3) determine molt chronology and intensity of female northern pintails wintering along the Texas Coast during October through March 2012-2014 and (4) estimate seasonal sex ratios and pairing chronology of northern pintails throughout the Texas Coast from March through October 2012 to 2014.
