Summer Science Nights

Are you worried that your child may turn into a couch potato this summer? Our new Summer Science Nights are a great way to promote your child's understanding of science in the best laboratory of all: the great outdoors. Each session includes hands-on, minds-on activities and an action-packed hike on one of our wildlife-rich preserves.

 

Summer Serpents - June 16th and July 14th

Rough Green SnakeThere are few things that can get your heart pumping like the sight of a wild snake.Speckle The Katy Prairie is home to over 20 species of these fascinating creatures and even one legless lizard that mimics snakes.

Come see a few of our summer serpents, learn about snake safety and feeding habits before heading out on a safe but adventurous hike.

Just Stay Cool! - June 23rd and July 21st

Blazing Texas summers can be tough on wildlife, plants, and people. Animals and plants have come up with amazing ways to stay cool under soaring temperatures. Living underground, panting, and hunting at night are just a few ways to beat the heat. Weʼll take our cue from the animals and wait until weʼre under the cool of dusk to take our hike!

Prehistoric Prairie - June 30th and July 28th

ArrowheadTrumpeting, wild elephants, roaring lions, and speedy cheetahs. Where in the world are we, Africa? Columbian MammothNo! Weʼve just stepped back into the ice age on the Katy Prairie; a time when giants roamed the land. The prairie has been home to both aweinspiring mammals and people for thousands of years. Come discover how ancient creatures and Native Americans used the Katy Prairie for food, medicine, and shelter.
